My conversation with Dr. de Alba was both engaging and exciting in the various topics that we covered. I would implore all of you, especially in the case of Dr. de Alba, to check out his social media, especially Instagram. His post-release content for the podcast makes mine look quite amateur! As he said in the episode, he is trying to create more of a social media presence and he is certainly on his way. I said this in the outro of the episode, but one of my favorite parts of the conversation was about career anxiety and how to overcome that self-destructive mindset. As I said in the episode, being in my second year of graduate school and being, to put it mildly, a bit disillusioned by my own degree/field, career anxiety is certainly something I think about all of the time. Quite frankly, probably to an unhealthy degree! Dr. de Alba story of his career and perspectives really put some things into a new light and I really appreciated his inputs. Again, please go support Dr. de Alba and his different ventures, he has been a wonderful collaborator both on and off the show!
A very special thank you again to Dr. Francisco Javier de Alba for coming onto the podcast and for sharing his piece, Uncharted.
I am excited to preview the next episode of the TCC Podcast which will feature the composer Katherine Bergman and her piece Land of Cloud-Tinted Waters. Katherine and I talk a good deal about realizing the beauty and atmosphere into a musical form and, in the case of this piece, a percussion trio. Although I am not very familiar with the landscape of Minnesota, it was nearly magical studying and then discussing this piece, which takes the listener up and down the various landscapes of the state. This is also certainly not any normal percussion trio either, as there are flower pots, newspapers, and ocarinas! We also have a special conversation about the professional atmosphere in composition when it comes to writing music for ensembles in the middle school through early undergraduate levels, and the stigmas, as well as practical challenges, that come with such composition. I would really love to keep listing items and describing the conversation, but it will probably be more fruitful to wait until the actual episode releases for all of those things! I am excited to share it all with you, and this is going to be a fascinating and engaging episode, you won’t want to miss it!
Again, don’t forget to listen to the most previous episode if you missed it, featuring Dr. Francisco Javier de Alba and his piece Uncharted. Make sure to follow our social media links below and the podcast streaming platform of your choice to keep up-to-date on new episodes and blog posts from the TCC. Additionally, set your calendar and or streaming subscriptions to this coming Monday, October 21st for Katherine Bergman and her piece The Land of Cloud-Tinted Water. You won’t want to miss it, and we’ll see you there!
