Hello Everyone,

If you have not already, I encourage you to use the following link to listen to the most recent episode of the TCC Podcast, featuring Professor Douglas Boyce and his piece Ars Poetica.

Having Professor Boyce on the program was quite a unique experience and I am very grateful for it. Although myself and the other guests try our best to understand our respective fields in a grander sense, Professor Boyce is possibly the best suited for this so far. Sometimes, myself especially, people just coming-up in a profession or field can get particularly fixated or troubled over some issues, when in the grand scheme of the work it might not be too significant. For example, to hear from Professor Boyce his perspective on the progression of the music theory field in the emergence of semiotics and eventually cognition was fascinating. It is also interesting to think about how the hot-topic issues of today’s music world will eventually shake out, I guess we will have to wait and see!

A very special thank you again to Professor Douglas Boyce for coming onto the podcast and for sharing his piece, Ars Poetica.

I am excited to preview the next episode of the TCC Podcast which will feature Professor Nadine Silverman and her piece Voix des Femmes. Professor Silverman and I discussed a wide range of issues in both composition and music at large. Namely, issues around inclusion and initiatives to bolster female compositional and performer recognition. Professor Silverman is, along with being a composer, is also a theorist herself, and there are specific rationales to the structure and composition of the piece relating to inclusion and dealing with historical (and horrifically some current) misogyny in composition and theory. I would love to give more details but everyone will have to wait for the upcoming release of this episode on Monday. This is going to be a fascinating and engaging episode, and you won’t want to miss it!

There is also an additional announcement to make, which is that the release schedule of the TCC podcast is going to be changing to bi-weekly releases on Mondays. The Fall academic semester has started, and with all of the assumed responsibilities that come with being a full-time graduate student, there is not enough time for myself to schedule, prepare-for, and edit episodes on a weekly basis. So, after the release of the episode with Professor Silverman, there will be a week break and then the following Monday will have the next episode, which will be the second TCC Roundtable, where music theorist Albert Wheeler and performer Dr. Pamela Mireles discuss issues in and around The Classical Canon. The new gap in content release will be filled with more supplemental social media content and postings, including some throwback clips from older episodes! There will be more information on this and the next TCC Roundtable within the next blog post.

Again, don’t forget to listen to the most previous episode if you missed it, featuring Professor Douglas Boyce and his piece Ars Poetica. Make sure to follow our social media links below and the podcast streaming platform of your choice to keep up-to-date on new episodes and blog posts from the TCC. Additionally, set your calendar and or streaming subscriptions to this coming Monday, September 2nd for Professor Nadine Silverman and her piece Voix des Femmes. You won’t want to miss it, and we’ll see you there!
